Week 10 Blog

The end of our project is near and this will be my last blog. I just want to say that I am proud of how our ideas are turning into reality. We put a lot of work in to planning this event and within the next couple months it will actually be taking place. We have had many struggles throughout this process like procrastinating but we are finally getting stuff done. We hope to meet with Mrs. Germsheid one more time to discuss a few last things regarding volunteers and games. We unfortunately did not get to fundraise with Romas but we hope we will be able to do one at Dairy Queen or somewhere else. We are also trying to get in touch with Walmart and Target about donating and hopefully they will. But overall I am really happy with how our project is turning out and I can not wait for the event. It is going to be fantastic.

Week 9 Blog

Week 8

So we have actually quite a bit done this week as far as planning goes. We came up with all of our games. We have decided we are going to have ten. We also decided that with limited area outside at the school we are going to have a few games inside as well. With this being said we have to make sure it is okay with Mrs. Germsheid. We also need to talk to our principal to see if he will make an announcement about our project to see if anyone would be willing to volunteer or help. Also, Mr. Carlson came up with the idea of seeing whether or not Walmart or Target would donate some items to the school. Any donations or volunteering would be great. So we will need to find out who it is we need to get in contact with to figure out if that is a possibility or not. We still have not got in contact with Romas or Dairy Queen but we plan to do that as soon as possible.

This week we actually got quite a bit done. We need to have our principal make an announcement about our project and see if anyone wants to volunteer. Once we figure out volunteers we need to get their shirt sizes and figure out what the design of our volunteer shirts are going to be. We think we are going to need 20 to 25 volunteers. We have to figure out what we are going to do about games. We know what are going to have but we have to figure out supplies for them and where we are going to get that. We need to talk to Walmart or Target to see if they are willing to donate anything. Also, we need to see if the school has anything that we can use. Some of the games are going to be able to be made and some may need to be bought. We really need to do our fundraisers soon because we have to do a presentation on our project next month and part of our presentation is going to be how much money we raised. We need to figure out the exact date for the carnival event so that we can make volunteer sheets and put all of the exact information on there.

Week 7

This week Reese has been sick so we have not really got to plan any ideas as far as games go for the event but Emma has talked to her mom. She is hopefully going to be contacting Roma’s soon and if we can not do Roma’s then hopefully we will be able to partner with dairy queen. Hopefully we will be able to get a hold of them and get this fundraiser going in the next couple of weeks. Along with the fundraiser we are going to need to advertise it. So coming up with ideas for flyers, etc will need to be planned. We have also decided that we are going to make shirts for everyone who is volunteering at the event. So another thing to keep in mind would be ideas as far as what the shirts will look like and how many volunteers we will need. Although our project has not been moving that fast I am confident that we will pick up the pace and get it going. We have so many ideas and now we just have to fulfill them.

Week 6

Week 5

I have a few new years resolutions for this 20 Time Blog. I plan to hold myself accountable for what I plan to do. Reese and I need to work on figuring out the games the kids will play at the event. Emma is going to be working on organizing fundraisers and getting in contact with Romas. I also plan to add in pictures into my blogs of my group working on our project or just pictures that relate to what we are working on. I feel as though we have procrastinated a lot so a goal would definitely be to stop all of the procrastinating. Another goal would be to have done the majority of our fundraisers by the end of next month. That way we have plenty of time to focus on the presentation we have to give and also figuring out the schedule for the event. We need to see how many kids we are going to have outside at a time and also how long the kids are going to be out there. These plans are just a few of my goals and resolutions for my project as the new year begins.

So to begin we met with Mrs. Germsheid, the principal at William M. BeDell School on Wednesday. We presented our project to her. She really likes our idea and she approves. We exchanged Emma’s regular email with her and Mr. Carlson will monitor it because we are not allowed to send emails out of our district with our school emails. Anyways we found out that their school is year around. So we decided that we are going to be doing out carnival in the summertime. We are going to be hosting our carnival in a fenced in area in the back of their school because it is safer if it is fenced in. So anyways she approved our idea and now we are working on fundraiser ideas and carnival game ideas. She has to approve the games before we can go through with them. We are hoping to get in touch with Romas, a local restaurant, soon so that we can partner with them to fundraise. Today, we basically just figured out carnival games. We came up with about five so far. Next week we are hoping to get in touch with Roma’s and to work on our 30 second pitch. Basically, our pitch is our whole project in a nutshell. So if anyone asks what are project is it will only take us about 30 seconds to explain it. Also, we have decided that Emma’s mom is going to be handling the money and next week we plan to get our fundraiser ideas together and to figure out what the price of this whole thing is going to cost. After we get in touch with Romas we are going to have to make flyers and start handing them out to people. We will also probably ask our principal if he will make an announcement about it. So we have a lot planned for next week and we are hoping to get a lot done.

Week 4

Okay so this week I guess you can say we have made a little bit more progress. We have a set date that next Wednesday we will be meeting with the principal at William M. BeDell after school to discuss our ideas. We hope that she gives us permission that way we can get our plan going. We have a lot of fundraiser ideas. Some include partnering with this pizzeria in our town, silent auction, bake sale, and many others. More information on those can be found in the fundraiser tab at the top. But basically that has been everything we have gotten done this week because Thanksgiving break is about to start. The next time we update we will let you know if we have permission and if not then what our alternative is going to be. Which we have already decided that if we do not get permission then we are most likely going to raise money and host this event in our town because it can still apply. But we will let you know what happens.

Week 3

So this week we were still unable to meet with William M. BeDell’s principal. But we have planned a time to meet her now. Yet that is in two weeks. Our group is starting to get a little impatient I guess you can say. We have not gotten a lot of work done because we have not been able to meet with her. Although we understand that she has a lot to do and so do we. We are just happy we have found time to meet with her now and hopefully she will give us her permission. Now as far as the Go Fund Me, Emma still has not gotten that set up because for it you need a bank account and stuff so we are hoping that her mom can set that up for us, since we are kind of too young to be handling the money. Now as far as our fundraiser and events plans we have most stuff figured out on what we are going to do. We now really just need permission, so hopefully we can get that sooner than later so our plan can get put into action.

Week 2

This week we hope to meet with William M. BeDell’s principal. We need to meet with her soon to find out if we can actually host an event and raise money. We need to basically explain the whole idea to her and then we are hoping for some good feedback. If she gives us approval then we can really get our plan into motion. We can start hosting fundraisers that we have planned. Which means we can start raising money. We need to also talk to our principal about being able to host some of our fundraisers at school events.  We have many fundraisers in mind and the majority of them are going to need some volunteers. Therefore, we are going to have to get the word out and just do fundraiser by fundraiser. We still have yet to set up our Go Fund Me but Emma is going to be doing that soon. But basically we are just hoping that next week we can meet with her and we will see what happens from there.

Week 1

My name is Julia. I am partnering with Emma and Reese on the 20 time project. We are working on getting in touch with William M. BeDell Achievement and Resource Management, also known as the Arc. William BeDell’s goal is to provide the highest  quality of programs and services for children and adults who have a developmental disability. These programs and services are open to anyone who resides in Madison County, IL. We would like to host a carnival type event for all of the students and staff that attend William M. BeDell. Our goal is not only to create a fun filled event but left over proceeds from fundraisers and the event will go toward purchasing items for William M. BeDell. We would like to get items that could improve their education and environment. I will leave their website below for anyone who would like to check it out. We have already started planning fundraisers to raise money and we hope to get those up and running. But before we do that we would like to have a meeting with the head administrator(s) of William M. BeDell to talk to them about our plan and see if they are on board. We also need to ask our principal for permission to do some of our fundraisers that will take place during school or sporting events.
