Week 10 Blog

This week is our last blog week because we have to start preparing for our presentation. Although we are about to present about our project, we are going to keep fundraising and trying to get sponsors for our carnival. We tried to contact Romas about a fundraiser but it didn’t work out, but we have made plans to talk to walmart and target about donating items for our carnival. We hope to talk more to Mrs. Germsheid about volunteers and get all that figured out. I believe that we will have a great presentation and when the time comes to have the carnival it will be AMAZING!

Week 9 Blog

I have been very busy lately, with me coming back from being sick and having tons of make up work, and the track season starting, so I haven’t worked on this project at all. This week though my group and I decided to get back to it and start working harder than we have worked before. We finally got a list of the games we want to have at our carnival, and what we will need to buy and what we can make ourselves. Mr. Carlson had a great idea to talk to places like Walmart or Target to see if they will donate any supplies that can help us set up games and other things like that. We are going to talk to our principal to see if he can make an announcement about our project and see if anyone wants to donate or volunteer to help. Before we do this thought we need to talk to Mrs. Germsheid and see if she has certain requirements for volunteers, like if we can get students to help or not. If she doesn’t have any requirements we will put up a sign up sheet so they can help us. I hope we can talk to our principal within the next week so we can get things set up as quick as possible.

Week 8 Blog

This week we did not do much because we have all been very busy and haven’t had much time to do anything with this project. I have had a lot of makeup work so I haven’t had any time to work on this project. We need to think of games for our carnival and we really need to start fundraising. Our weekly goal is to come up with all of the games and think of the first fundraiser we want to do. We were thinking about volunteers and who we could ask to be one. We wanted to see if our principal will make an announcement that talks about our project.

Week 7 Blog

I was gone from school all of this week because I was sick. But now I’m back and ready to continue with this project! We didn’t do much this week but Emma talked to her mom about talking to Roma’s about a fundraiser and she said she would see what she could do to help. Her mom also suggested that if Roma’s wouldn’t do it, we can see if Dairy Queen will partner with us. I hope we can partner with one of these places or maybe even both, because it would make a lot of money and we haven’t started any other fundraisers yet. I think we will be contacting them within the next couple of weeks to see if they would like to help.

Week 6 Blog

I hope you had a good New Year, because I certainly did! We have come up with a few new years resolutions for our project. Within the next month, we hope to start our fundraisers and talk more to Mrs. Germsheid about the event. Emma is responsible for organizing the fundraisers and she is still going to try to get in touch with Romas. Julia and I are going to figure out some of the games that we are going to have in the carnival. This is something that I am going to work on — holding myself accountable for doing the work that I’m supposed to do. I also want to work on time management, because I just so happen to be a pro at procrastinating! I hope to take at least 30 minutes a week where the group meets and just works on the project. I feel like these are realistic and attainable goals for this month.

Week 5 Blog

This week we met with the principal at William BeDell, Mrs. Germsheid. She liked our idea of a carnival and she has agreed to work with us. During our meeting we found out that William BeDell is a year round school, so we have come up with a plan to host our carnival during the summer. This is going to work out well because my group and I are not in school and William BeDell is so we will have time to work at the carnival without missing any school of our own. We have discussed the area that we will hold our carnival at and there is a fenced in area at the school that we will use. We discussed game ideas and fundraising and we will start on these soon now that we have gotten approval by Mrs. Germsheid. We still hope to get in touch with Romas and  we have decided that Emma’s mom will be handling the money. We hope to talk to Romas and start fundraising soon. We will also try to talk to our principal about making an announcement for our project. edit me. It's easy.

Week 4 Blog

Thanksgiving break is about to begin, but we have finally planned out a date to meet with the Principal at William BeDell. We will meet with her next week to present our idea about hosting an event at William BeDell. If she says yes, we will need to begin working as soon as possible to start fundraisers and planning out the carnival in detail. We are hoping to contact Roma’s, a pizzeria here in Bethalto, about fundraising and helping with our 20 Time project. If we can partner with them I feel like we would raise a lot more money that way faster. If we can't then we will just have to stick with the ideas we have so far (which can be found in the fundraisers tab) and hopefully we can figure out more ways to raise money as well.

Week 3 Blog

We were still unable to meet with the principal at William BeDell to plan out our event, but we made plans to meet with her in two weeks. We have not made any progress and we are trying to figure out a go fund me page. We are having difficulties with it because you need a bank account the money can go to and we don't have one set up for it. We are trying to come up with other fundraising ideas, but we cannot put anything into action until we are certain that we can work with William BeDell. I think that if we keep putting off meeting with her for too long, she might change her mind about wanting to do this with us. If that happens I think we would just change our idea to helping people with the same conditions in the Bethalto community.

Week 1 Blog

My name is Reese and I’m partnering with Julia and Emma in a 20 Time Project. For our 20 Time Project, We are trying to get in touch with The William M. BeDell Achievement and Resource Center. The William M. BeDell

Achievement and Resource Center provides services and programs to children and adults who have a developmental disability that live in Madison County. We hope to host a carnival like event for everyone who attends William BeDell. We plan to have fundraisers to help raise money for William BeDell. With any money the we have after the event, we plan to donate any items needed that will benefit the residents at the center. We hope to soon meet with the principal at William BeDell and share our idea for a carnival with her. We are going to talk to the principal at our school to talk about fundraising ideas and get permission to hold some at school sports events. You can find the kinds of fundraisers we plan to have under the “Fundraisers” tab. So far we have not run into any problems with our plan, but we are trying to think of more fundraising ideas.
