Week 10 Blog

This will be the last blog pertaining to the project because we are starting to prepare for our final presentation. Even though our presentation is really close, we are going to continue to raise money and fundraise after that, considering the event isn’t for another month or so. We tried to get ahold of Roma’s, but it turned up unsuccessful. We are still going to try to get ahold of Target and Walmart about donating. We also hope that we can sort everything out with Mrs.Germsheid soon about the last little things. I think our presentation is going to turn out very well, and when it comes to the date of the carnival, that will be amazing also!! This project has become such a part of all of us girls and we are so excited to have the opportunity to be able to do something like this.

Week 9 Blog

This week was somewhat successful for us. We are going to try to get our principal to make an announcement about our project and to see if people are maybe interested in helping. Once we figure out the rules about who can be volunteers we will be opening the chance up to everyone. We did figure out all of the games. But, we have yet to start collecting things we need to make them or rent them. We are planning to talk to Walmart or Target to see if they would want to donate things to us. It would be the best if we started doing our fundraisers soon, considering we have a big presentation about this next month. We are getting in contact with the schools principal to set an exact date for the carnival, which will overall help us with many different aspects. We are still very confident that our project will turn out successful.

Week 8 Blog

This week has been a pretty successful week for the project. We finally came up with all of the games. Which is gonna be a total of 10. The space outside of the school is not as big as we were expecting so we are going to ask Mrs.Germsheid if it is possible for us to have games inside as well. We are planning on asking our principal if he will make an announcement about our project to give everyone the chance to learn about it and giving them the opportunity to volunteer. Also our teacher, Mr.Carlson, gave us the idea to talk to Target or Walmart to see if they would be willing to donate items for the carnival day. Any donations we could get would be great. All we need to do is figure out who to get ahold of to see if that would be a possibility or not. We haven’t gotten ahold of Roma’s or Dairy Queen yet, but we plan to do so soon.

Week 7 Blog

Reese has been gone from school all week so unfortunately we haven’t been able to plan very many games. But I have talked to my mom about her helping get ahold of Roma’s soon and if they do not want to partner with us, we are going to talk to Dairy Queen. We are hoping we can get ahold of them and get this fundraiser started very soon. Along with these fundraisers starting to happen we have to come up with ways to advertise it. We could do this by using social media, making posters, etc. Another thing we have decided on is that the people who volunteer with us are going to get shirts made. We have a lot of exciting ideas that we plan on making happen in the next couple months. Even though we haven’t moved very fast with this project I am sure it is going to turn out really good.

Week 5 Blog

It’s a new year!! Along with the new year, I have come up with some resolutions for our project that I plan to work on. One change is that I am going to email Mrs.Germsheid more often. This is necessary to keep her in the loop and to keep her interested. Another change is that I am going to start figuring out fundraisers. We have lacked in contacting people in the past, so that needs to be fixed. We are going to be contacting Roma’s in Bethalto along with Dairy Queen in Bethalto, to see if they would want to work with us. The last change we are planning on making is making sure we get our blog posts up every week. This keeps everyone informed on how are project is going, and how much progress we have made. I hope everyone had a great New Years!

Week 6 Blog

We finally met with Mrs.Germsheid this week. She really liked the idea of the carnival and wants to work with us. While at the meeting, we were trying to find a time that was most convenient for both our group and the students. We then learned that they are a year round school, so we are planning to have the carnival during the summer, so that way our group isn’t in school. We also found out that they have a space we could use for the event, which is a little fenced in spot, which is perfect. We are coming up with a final paper to give Romas, so they can say If they want to work with us or not. As a group we decided that my mom will be the one to handle all of the money. Also, we still need to talk to our principal about making an announcement so all the kids know about certain fundraisers.

Week 4 Blog

It is about to be Thanksgiving break, but luckily we set a final date for when we are going to meet with Mrs.Germsheid. We have planned on next week, which is when we will explain and present our idea for the carnival. If all goes well during the meeting, we will immediately start planning fundraisers. One fundraiser is that we are hoping to partner with a local pizza place here in Bethalto, which is called Romas. We feel like this will be the way that we will earn the most money, considering everyone likes pizza and because its for a good cause. If they do not want to work with us then we will just continue with our other ideas, which you can find in the tab labeled ‘Fundraisers’. Were hoping we can come up with more ways that will bring in lots of money, because we really want to help as much as we can with the students at William M Bedell.

Week 2 Blog

We had planned to meet with the principal, but we were still unable to do that. So, we have planned once again to meet with her in two weeks. Unfortunately, we have not made very much progress since we haven’t been able to meet with Mrs.Germsheid. For the other fundraisers, we have good ideas but we can not plan anything for sure until we know that we can definitely work with William M. Bedell and the students there. I am kind of getting worried that if we wait too much longer to meet with her, she is going to change her mind and not want to see and work with us. We are hoping she doesn’t do that, but if she does, we will start planning on working with Bethalto to host the carnival event for the kids of our town. Let’s hope we can meet soon, and get this project started.

This week we plan on getting to meet with the principal of William M. Bedell. If she wants to work with us, then we can finally start to plan out all the fundraisers and when the carnival is going to happen. We were going to meet with her last week but I became unavailable. So, we moved it to next week. Along, with making a plan with the principal of William Bedell,  we are hoping that our principal will be able to help us with some of our fundraisers that involve our school. We are going to try to put up a GoFundMe to raise money, which should be up by November 10. The only problem is that we have to use a bank account and since we are all only 14, we are unable to get one by ourselves. Luckily, my mom is willing to be the head parent to help us.

Week 1 Blog

My name is Emma and I am a student at Civic Memorial High School.  I am partnering with Julia and Reese in a 20 Time Project. A 20 Time Project is a project where we are going to choose a community to benefit  and it is going to take up 20 percent of our year in English class. Our community that we chose and are planning on partnering with is The William M. Bedell Achievement and Resource Center. What we are planning on doing is having a carnival type event for the people who attend that community which will have different carnival games. In order to have this event we are planning on doing different fundraisers. With the money that is left over from our fundraisers we are going to find out what they need that could benefit the program there. Then, we are going to buy whatever we can and bring it to them, in the hopes that it can expand what they offer to their students. We decided to focus on raising awareness for the learning needs in our community. This is what we wanted to focus on because personally I have a special connection with learning challenges and so I want to help others with the challenges they face.
